Rooted in Rebellion. Raised on Stories.
Rae Dawn’s early life as a train hopper, at-risk teenager, and punk singer/spoken word artist ignited a passion for storytelling and youth rights. These experiences fueled their pursuit of an MScEd (NYC Teaching Fellow), and a career teaching English and SPED in high schools (NYC, SF).
Rae studied film at SVA, directing a documentary about Kembra Pfahler, underground singer of The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, known for sewing together their private parts.
Rae’s obsessed with non-binary and trans representation on TV, following the success of an award winning comedic web series (City Folx), starring two SF Drag Kings (Tubi, Amazon). Rae's foray into producing a web series paved the way for a career in tech, where they served as a Video Program Manager at Apple.
When not immersed in production or youth development, Rae dedicates their time to writing, occasionally returning to the stage to perform comedy sets. Rae’s currently developing a feature mockumentary set in the Fine Arts world and an UNTITLED AI Documentary.
Past projects include a campy feature they shot in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and My Rock n Roll Fantasy, a personal documentary/animation hybrid (Andy Warhol Foundation, RACC) blending 90’s era zine stories from an abused teenager’s voice.
